Role: Product Lead
Year: 2024
🧩 Challenge
In 2024, the FTC finalized a consent order against InMarket prohibiting the company from selling or sharing precise location data without explicit consent. The ruling had immediate and sweeping implications for core product functionality, client data pipelines, SDK behavior, and compliance posture across the organization.
🧠 Strategy
- Acted as product lead interfacing between legal, engineering, and executive teams
- Led audit of all data pipelines, SDK parameters, and location processing systems
- Worked with legal to interpret FTC constraints and translate them into implementable product-level restrictions
- Collaborated with engineering to scope technical changes, including geofence hardening, opt-in flows, and data flow isolation
⚙️ What I Built
- Defined clear internal rules for data collection and sharing across SDKs, APIs, and internal platforms
- Supported implementation of geo-restriction logic to block precise location flows where prohibited
- Created cross-functional documentation for product, BD, and CS teams to ensure alignment
- Advised on go-forward roadmap to support privacy-first measurement and targeting products
📈 Outcome
- InMarket became compliant with the FTC’s consent order ahead of enforcement deadline
- Successfully transitioned existing partners to updated SDK and data permission models
- Reduced legal exposure while maintaining business continuity for compliant product lines
- Elevated the company’s internal product compliance standards and documentation playbook
